No to the Political Persecution of Prof. Jose Maria Sison!

Statement of the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist),

14-09-2002

The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) vigorously denounces the political persecution by the Dutch government of Prof. Jose Maria Sison. Prof. Sison is a political refugee from the Philippines in the Netherlands. He is the founding chair of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the chief political consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

CPC(M-L) also condemns the addition of Prof. Sison, the CPP and the New People's Army (NPA) to so-called terrorist lists of the Canadian and U.S. governments. The CPP and NPA are both legitimate political entities. Their addition to terrorist lists shows that behind the war on terrorism, the entry of more than 4,000 U.S. troops in the Philippines and the offering of more than $50 million in military aid to the Philippine government lurks a hidden agenda of suppressing the national liberation struggle of the Filipino people. Under no circumstances must the Canadian government embark upon this road.

CPC(M-L) calls on the Canadian working class and people to vigorously condemn the criminalization of the CPP and NPA and demand an end to the political persecution of Prof. Sison. Join a protest being held at the Netherlands Consulate in Vancouver (821-475 Howe St) on Monday, September 16 at 12 noon. Send letters of protest to the Netherlands Embassy in Ottawa and to Prime Minister Jean Chretien:
